There are two main routes through the Overberg, the N2 strikes out across the interior with a 5 hour journey through sheep, wheat and mountains. Head north to the charming village of Greyton, filled with thatched roof cottages and pretty gardens. There are lots of historical buildings to see such as the Post House and St. Andrews Church. Greyton has become popular with antique and craft hunters for its shops containing bygone treasures and exquisite pottery.

After Greyton start the two day trail to across the mountains into the Karoo and head down into Swellendam situated at the foot of the beautiful Langeberg Mountains. Famous for its architecture and history, for food stop at La Sosta a delicious Italian restaurant to start have the grilled scallops with white wine sauce, for main try the pan fried salmon and for dessert a classic Tiramisu.

Stroll down its well preserved streetscape with its serene Dutch buildings and wonderful country museum. Next head down to Hermanus known as the whale watching capital of South Africa, the whole of the southern cape coast is prime territory for land based whale-watching. Large numbers of whales seek out the sheltered bays along the coast for breeding. The whales can be seen close to the shore from Walker Bay with sightings guaranteed August to September. Elsewhere along the coast are opportunities to spot great white sharks amongst the waves.
